Velia beach, also known as Piana di Velia beach or Velia-Elea beach, is located in Marina di Ascea, in the hamlet of Castellammare di Velia; quiet seaside resort in the province of Salerno, in what is called the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, within the Campania region. Velia beach is a small refuge known and frequented mainly by local inhabitants . In fact, this beach is small, almost a strip of sand that stands precisely between the famous resorts of Marina di Ascea and Casal Velino . Because of its small surface: it is a beach with high attendance since the free space where you can lie often is not enough to welcome all those who go to this part of the Cilento for their beach holiday. There are bathing establishments where it will be possible to rent relaxation equipment such as umbrellas, deckchairs and sun beds and enjoy at the restaurants located in the immediate vicinity of the beach excellent dishes cooked according to the local gastronomic tradition. The beach has some interesting features. First, its medium-grain sand allows anyone to walk on the beach without too much trouble. Families with small children, teenagers, but also seniors can feel at ease on this beach. The color of the sand appears to be quite classic for Italian beaches, amber, however on particularly sunny days it seems that the sand takes on a golden hue. The sea that bathes the beach of Velia is wonderful, it has shades of blue that become darker as you move away from the shoreline. It can be very pleasant to practice scuba diving in the area, so as to admire the sandy bottom and the fish that inhabit it. The beach of Velia is one of the Cilento beaches to win the Blue Flag for years, an important recognition that attests not only to the cleanliness of the beach and the waters that bathe it but also to a wide range of services promoted with a view to respecting the environment . By car you can get to the Piana di Velia beach via the A30 motorway and the E45 road. As for alternative methods, you can get to the beach by taking a regional train to Sapri and then taking the RIAG transport company. A curiosity : not far from the beach is a historic area of importance, it is the Archaeological Park of Elea-Velia . The double name of the site is due to the civilizations that populated the area, Velia for the Romans and Elea for the Greeks. The park contains some testimonies of the ancient city renowned because it is located at the center of the trade route between Etruria and Greece.
