Scilla beach

The Scilla beach is located on the south-west coast of Calabria, in one of the most popular stretches of coast in the region: the Costa Viola . Scilla is a characteristic village overlooking the sea, since in fact you can admire the majestic Ruffo Castle that dominates the entire bay below, located a short distance from the Strait of Messina. The main beach of Scilla is the beach of the Sirens, also known as the beach of Marina Grande precisely because it is the largest beach for the size of the Calabrian town. It has a beach of 800 meters, mostly free, and suitable for families with children and groups of friends. Next to it is Punta Pacì, a rocky outcrop with cliffs below and bathed in crystal clear sea. The most famous and popular of the beaches of Scilla is the Chianalea beach, so called because it is located in the homonymous district of the city. Located a short distance from the city center, it is characterized by the presence of small houses, once fishermen's dwellings, not far from the shore. The beach is wide and offers comfort for relaxation such as the rental of chairs, umbrellas and sunbeds. Frequented by both locals and tourists who choose Scilla as a destination for their beach holidays. A few kilometers from Scilla is the Favazzina beach, frequented above all by families with children. The beaches of this stretch of coast are composed of gravel mixed with light colored pebbles and in some points there are cliffs, an ideal place to practice snorkeling and admire the species of marine fauna that reside in these crystal clear waters. All the city beaches have in their vicinity accommodations such as cheap hotels, B & Bs and airbnb where you can stay. There is also a marina where you can rent boats to admire this beautiful stretch of coast from the sea. A curiosity : the origins of Scilla are to be found between the mythology and the legends that came to us from the ancient Greeks. In ancient times, Scilla was a beautiful nymph who was transformed by the sorceress Circe into a sea monster. With its six heads, and with the help of Charybdis (another sea monster located on the coast of Messina), they devoured all the sailors who approached them.

  1. Review of AUGUSTO AUGUSTO 3.3/5 IT, 3 August 2017
