Sant’Agostino beach

The Sant'Agostino beach is located in the Riviera di Ulisse, between Sperlonga and Gaeta, in the municipality of Gaeta, in the province of Latina, in southern Lazio and is located halfway between Rome and Naples. Also known as Piana di Sant'Agostino or Marina di Sant'Agostino : it is the widest beach of Gaeta, about two kilometers long, with a width that reaches 200 meters, composed of very fine white sand with crystal clear water and shallow water that it gently slopes down, making it therefore suitable for families with children and for less experienced swimmers. It is only necessary to pay close attention during swimming in the sea on days of strong wind at the sea currents, since it is open sea and therefore less safe. Over the years it has repeatedly won the coveted Blue Flag award, awarded for the excellent quality of the water and services available. The beach of Sant'Agostino is less frequented than the more central beaches of Gaeta, like the famous Serapo beach, and therefore perfect for those seeking greater tranquility and relaxation. The beach is divided into stretches of free beach that alternate with stretches managed and bathing establishments . Even the guests of the free beach can enjoy a whole range of services, given that the coast is dotted with commercial and accommodation activities, refreshment points, cafeterias and restaurants. Behind the beach stands a frame of Mediterranean scrub and even further, majestic, the Monte Moneta, 360 meters high, a destination for lovers of climbing, trekking and hiking. It is a rocky wall overlooking the sea from whose summit you can enjoy a spectacular view of the beach and the gulf. Only during the nesting of the peregrine falcon, from February 25th to April 15th, climbing are prohibited to protect these specimens. On the right side of the beach is Mount Circeo, in front of it the Ponza island is visible and on the left the ruins of the sighting towers built to protect the territories from Saracen attacks. The beach of Sant'Agostino can be reached along the Via Flacca, a coastal road that connects Gaeta to Terracina . The parking lots are located beyond the coastal road, in parallel streets. The beach of Sant'Agostino, both in the parts of the free beach and in the areas reserved for the customers of the bathing establishments, offers assistance at sea and rescue. The services offered to the guests of this beach are: toilets, hot and cold showers, bar kiosks, restaurants, hotels, camping, beach equipment rental, canoe and pedalo hire. From Gaeta it is possible to reach the Pontine Islands of Ponza and Ventotene with hydrofoil lines.
